The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated educator to teach Humanities in Grade 4 beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Our school, which serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education. Position Overview
The fourth grade humanities teacher at The Covenant School plays a central role in helping students develop foundational skills in reading, writing, and historical understanding within a Christian liberal arts education. We are seeking an educator who is committed to the holistic formation of children and who approaches teaching with both joy and seriousness of purpose. The teacher introduces students to habits of attention, wonder, and disciplined learning while providing clear structure, consistent expectations, and age-appropriate academic challenge. Through the study of literature, art, and history, students learn to read closely, make connections across ideas, and express their understanding with clarity.
The teacher integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into daily classroom life and fosters an environment in which students encounter the goodness, truth, and beauty of God’s work in history, literature, and human culture. In this context, the teacher supports the growth and flourishing of every child through careful instruction, meaningful relationships, and shared responsibility within the life of the school.
Fourth grade teachers collaborate closely as part of a grade-level team and contribute to the sharedwork of forming students within the Lower School.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Teaching certification required
- Experience teaching elementary or lower school students preferred
- Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically and thoughtfully in the context of teaching
