Why Our Teachers Choose Covenant

Teaching at The Covenant School

At The Covenant School, we understand teaching as a Christian vocation. Our faculty take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate classrooms that are ordered, humane, and intellectually serious. We understand this work to be incarnational and formative: teachers delight in seeing students as image bearers of our Creator and take seriously their role in helping students discover, develop, and direct their gifts for the common good. Grounded in a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, teachers work collaboratively in the formation of students and the shared life of the school. We seek educators who delight in what they teach, care deeply for students, and desire to grow in wisdom and skill within a shared Christian mission and a rich liberal arts tradition.

  • Faculty Life and Community

Faculty at The Covenant School work closely with colleagues within and across departments in a professional community marked by mutual trust, collegiality, and a shared commitment to excellent teaching. We believe faculty are central to the life and mission of the school, and we seek to support and care for them as they grow in their craft and vocation. Christian faith is integrated naturally and thoughtfully into the life of the school, shaping a community of fellowship and shared purpose while honoring the integrity of academic disciplines and the developmental needs of students.
  • How We Form Teachers at Covenant

At Covenant, teaching is understood as a craft learned over time within a community. New faculty are formed through close collaboration with experienced colleagues, classroom observation, and ongoing conversation about teaching and learning. Mentorship is not viewed as remediation, but as a normal and expected part of professional life. Experienced faculty likewise continue to grow through peer collaboration, reflection, and shared practice.
This formative culture is marked by clarity, shared expectations, and a common commitment to grow together in both teaching practice and faithfulness to the school’s educational vision.
  • Pathways into Teaching

We recognize that educators come to teaching through a variety of paths.

    Lower School (Grades PreK–5)
Teaching certification is required. The school is committed to mentoring and supporting teachers as they grow in their craft within a collaborative faculty community.

Middle & Upper School (Grades 6–12)
Candidates who are discerning a call to teaching, possess a strong academic background, and enjoy working with adolescents are encouraged to apply, even if they have not followed a traditional education pathway. New teachers are supported through mentorship and collaboration as they grow into the craft of teaching within a Christian liberal arts context.

    • Love students and take personal responsibility for their intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth.
    • Are attentive to students as persons, seeking to know them well and to engage each student humanely and with discernment.
