The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated educator to serve as a part-time Academic Support Teacher in the Lower School beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Our school, which serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education.

Position Overview
The Lower School Academic Support Teacher provides targeted academic support to students in K through Grade 5, helping strengthen foundational literacy, math and executive functioning skills through small-group and individualized instruction. Working closely with classroom teachers, families, and the Lower School support team, the Academic Support Teacher administers assessments, monitors student progress, supports intervention plans, and provides coordinated support aligned with classroom instruction. Through clear, structured teaching and careful observation, the teacher helps students grow in confidence, independence, and effective learning habits while supporting their continued success within the classroom.
We are seeking an educator who is committed to the holistic formation of children and who approaches this work with joy, patience, attentiveness. The Academic Support Teacher builds meaningful relationships with students while collaborating closely with teachers and parents to support a range of learning needs. The role requires thoughtful communication, organization, and ongoing professional growth in literacy/math intervention and student support. In keeping with the school’s mission, the Academic Support Teacher integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into daily interactions with students, helping cultivate perseverance, confidence, and care for others within the learning process.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
Experience in elementary education, literacy and/or math intervention, academic support, or a related field preferred
Strong understanding of literacy and math development in young children
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team
Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically and thoughtfully in the context of this work
