They take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate a community of scholars in which students are known, challenged, and formed in habits of thought and character for lives of faithful service.

Position Overview:
The eleventh grade humanities teacher will teach a required course focused on the History of Western Thought. This course traces the development of Western thought through the Classical, Medieval, and Modern periods, engaging students with seminal texts from antiquity to the present. Through close reading, discussion, and writing, students examine enduring questions about human purpose, the nature of knowledge, the foundations of morality, and the meaning of the good life.

We are seeking an educator who enjoys working with adolescents and who can establish an orderly, respectful, and intellectually vibrant classroom. The Humanities teacher approaches this work with both intellectual seriousness and care for students’ formation, cultivating habits of attention, wonder, and thoughtful inquiry. Through their teaching, they integrate the study of history with the art of rhetoric, written and spoken, helping students learn to read carefully, think clearly, and express ideas with precision and charity. The teacher collaborates with colleagues within the history department and across disciplines in the 11th grade, contributing to a shared vision of liberal arts formation.

In keeping with the school’s mission, the teacher integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into instruction, allowing Christian truth to illuminate the study of Western thought while honoring the integrity of the texts and questions under consideration.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in History or a related field required
- Proven experience teaching high school students preferred
- Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically and thoughtfully in the context of teaching
