Middle School Math Club Competes in National Tournament
Covenant's Middle School Math Club was very active throughout the fall, training weekly and competing in several national math competitions. In October and November they competed in the 2017 AreteLabs/AMC Mathematics National Championship (aka, "Math Madness"), in which they went head-to-head with other middle schools from across the United States in a 64-team bracketed tournament.
The team defeated The Avery Coonley School (IL) in round one, with 8th graders Wilson Chen and Miriam DeVore earning top scores for the Eagles. Covenant continued to roll in round two with a victory over Lancaster Day School (PA), this time led by top scorer Sam Kowalski. The Eagles fell short in round 3 to Woodland Middle School (TN), who later went on to win the tournament. Eighth grader Gabi Walicek earned the top score for the Eagles in round 3.

The middle school math club will be back in action in the new year with our School-wide Mathcounts Competition in early January and then the Junior Albemarle Mathematics Competition at AHS on January 27.
