Middle School Science Teacher (Grade 7)

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated educator to teach Life Science in the Middle School beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Serving more than 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education.

Faculty at The Covenant School understand teaching as a Christian vocation. They take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate a community of scholars in which students are known, challenged, and formed in habits of thought and character for lives of faithful service.

Position Overview:
The seventh grade Life Science course introduces students to the study of living systems and the remarkable complexity of the natural world. Through observation, discussion, laboratory investigation, and outdoor exploration, students develop foundational scientific knowledge while learning to ask thoughtful questions and investigate the living world.

We are seeking an educator who enjoys working with middle school students and who can establish an orderly, respectful, and intellectually vibrant classroom. The teacher approaches science with both intellectual seriousness and a sense of wonder, helping students develop curiosity about the living world and confidence in their ability to investigate it. The course aims to spark students’ interest in science, encouraging careful observation, thoughtful questioning, and delight in discovery while building the foundational habits and skills needed for further study.

In keeping with the school’s mission, the teacher integrates Christian faith naturally and thoughtfully into instruction, helping students recognize the study of life as an opportunity to explore the order, complexity, and goodness of God’s creation.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field required
  • Experience teaching middle school students preferred
  • Ability to integrate Christian faith authentically and thoughtfully in the context of teaching

We welcome candidates whose experiences and backgrounds enrich this shared work within a community shaped by a shared commitment to the school’s Christian mission and educational vision.
