Last week, sixth-grade students in Mrs. Feury’s Science classes were challenged with building a fort as part of their Engineering Unit. This challenge was inspired by inventor, agronomist, and scientist, Dr. George Washington Carver, who is famous for saying, “Never a day passes but that I do myself the honor to commune with some of nature’s varied forms.”
Students were challenged to work as a class to design and build an outdoor fort using materials found in nature. Each student was also instructed to bring one item from home to complete the fort. Mrs. Feury said, “Dr. Carver loved being out in creation and this outdoor fort should showcase this goodness.”
Located in Charlottesville, VA, The Covenant School is a non-denominational, private, Christian day school for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.
