Covenant recent graduate, Hunter Yates, led a NASA Student Launch Team along with participating members, Beau Yates (‘22), Bryce Yates (incoming ‘24), Seamus Allen (‘20), and Mac Allen (‘22). This was a college-level, advanced, high-power rocketry competition hosted by NASA. The team, through Boy Scout Troop 17, was one of only seven middle and high school teams around the United States to be selected to compete for two years alongside fifty universities including Purdue, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and many more.
The team won a total of seven national awards with first-place awards in the following categories: Altitude, Rocket Art, Team Spirit, Social Media, and their STEM Educational Outreach program. Additionally, Yates and his team had the opportunity to meet famous NASA rocket scientist and author, Homer Hickam, and received his autograph on their rocket. Yates and his team were also granted a unique, behind-the-scenes tour of NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama where their flight competition was held.
