The Covenant School is pleased to announce Mr. Jason Bennett as its new Athletic Director. Mr. Bennett comes to Covenant from Chapelgate Christian Academy in Marriottsville, MD where he has been the Director of Athletics and Student Activities for the past 20 years.
He brings a wealth of experience in private school athletics and has been a highly respected coach and administrator in the MIAA and IAAM, two premier private school leagues in the Baltimore area. Those who have worked with Mr. Bennett in the past have recognized him for his exceptional management skills as well as his outstanding character, spiritual leadership, and genuine love for people. He has a deep faith in Christ and is a team player, an effective mentor, and a person of integrity, honesty, and humility.
Mr. Bennett earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Houghton College, where he also played soccer and a Master of Science in Special Education from the College of St. Rose. Prior to serving at Chapelgate Christian Academy, Mr. Bennett taught physical education and was the Assistant Athletic Director at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, MD. He also coached a number of different sports throughout his time at both schools.
“We are very excited about Mr. Bennett’s ability and passion to further develop a culture of excellence in our athletics program,” says Colin Anderson, Head of Upper School. “His background in athletics, along with his winsome personality and genuine commitment to Christ, make him a perfect fit for Covenant athletics.”
Covenant staff reviewed nearly 30 applications for this position and narrowed the search to a couple finalists that were interviewed extensively by Covenant faculty and administrators across all three divisions of the School. A panel of student-athletes, parents, and coaches also participated and were unanimous in their support for Mr. Bennett.
“I am truly excited for the opportunity to serve The Covenant School in the capacity of Director of Athletics,” says Bennett. “I have sensed God's calling to this school and am confident He is going before me. The Covenant School has a strong history of accomplishments in athletics, and I will work hard to provide opportunities for our athletes to continue in this regard while remembering that our abilities in athletics can be used for His glory. I look forward to meeting coaches, faculty, students and their families over the next few months.”
Mr. Bennet and his wife, Becky, have six children. They will be moving to Charlottesville this summer, and he will begin his work at The Covenant School on June 24. We are excited to have Mr. Bennett lead our athletics program at The Covenant School and hope that you will join us in welcoming him and his family to the Covenant community!
