Upper School English Teacher (Grade 9)

The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic educator to teach ninth grade literature starting in the 2025-26 school year. Our school, which serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, rooted in the Western Liberal Arts tradition, and focused on the formation of the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Our faculty leads with an incarnational approach that seeks to equip and inspire students to live well through service to God and others.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in and commitment to the Christian liberal arts tradition, with an ability to integrate the study of literature with the art of rhetoric, written and spoken. The candidate should therefore be competent to teach effective argumentation and the elements of style, while also helping students strengthen their grasp of English grammar and effective vocabulary use. Most importantly, the candidate should be passionate about working with adolescents, able to connect with them while fostering order and discipline, and committed to their formation in wonder and wisdom. Given Covenant’s mission, this commitment to formation requires a person who can share their Christian faith authentically in the context of their teaching.
