Facilities Manager - Birdwood Campus

The Covenant School is a Christian Liberal Arts and Sciences Pre-K through twelfth grade private school with approximately 750 students. The position reports to the Director of Facilities and will oversee the physical operation, maintenance, and security of the Birdwood Campus at The Covenant School.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Inspect school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that all facilities are suitable for safe operations and maintained in an attractive and clean condition.
  • Maintain knowledge regarding methods of commercial cleaning, safety practices and procedures, and health standards and hazards.
  • Manage external vendors and contractors; assist in the development of necessary specifications and the evaluation of bids for outside contract work.
  • Oversee contractor projects to assure compliance with contractual agreements and applicable specifications subject to approved budgets.
  • Ensure that ongoing building operations and capital maintenance projects are within established budgets.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all after-hours events and building issues for the Birdwood Campus
  • Coordinate appropriate facilities set-up for a variety of activities either for the school or outside use as required.
  • Maintain and report required environmental, health, and maintenance standards as required to assure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Aid in the maintenance of the Campus Security Plan in conjunction with the CFO/COO, Facilities Director, and Division Administrators
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities to ensure consistent implementation of and compliance with the school’s Campus Security Plan.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the Charlottesville Police Department at the Birdwood Campus.
  • Support the school, its leadership, and the Mission of the Covenant School.

The Facilities Manager must be highly motivated and able to multi-task in a hands-on, small organization. Position requirements include the following:
  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years applicable experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with employees and constituents at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal and “customer service” skills.
  • The ability to carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Withstand frequent kneeling, crouching, and /or crawling.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Ability to analyze varied data to make decisions based on needs and budget requirements.
  • Comfortable with desktop computer applications and proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Professional interaction and response to all levels of employees, faculty, and parents on facilities-related issues.
