Substitute Teacher (General)

The substitute teacher provides meaningful instruction for assigned classroom students, helps them learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons, and manages the classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Reporting to the front desk at the beginning of the day and following sign-out procedures  with the Receptionist at the end of the day 
  • Carrying out the program of study prescribed in lesson plans left by the teacher and  guiding the learning process toward the achievement of goals and objectives as indicated
  • Creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity  and interests of the students 
  • Performing duties usually required of the absent teacher such as lunchroom, hall  monitoring, and playground 
  • Knowing the emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned
  • Performing other related duties as directed by the Head of Lower, Middle, or Upper  School 
REQUIREMENTS 
Qualified candidates will have: 
  • A commitment to Covenant’s Christian principles 
  • Experience working with students 
  • A genuinely caring attitude toward students 
  • The ability to communicate clearly and establish effective, working relationships with  students, parents, teachers, and staff, and  
  • The ability to be flexible in working with various levels of students, subjects, and teaching  methodologies 
  • The person must also be comfortable sharing his/her faith with students. An education background is preferred. 
Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour
