Julian Drake '21 Builds Classroom for Fellow Students

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Covenant ninth grader Julian Drake built an outdoor classroom for all Upper School students to enjoy. Last January, Science Department Chair Gretchen Feury approached Julian about the idea. Julian spent many hours planning the classroom concept, gathering materials, and building the benches.
Julian says, “I learned a lot about leadership because there were so many people involved in this project. It’s really important to coordinate well! Oh, and I learned a lot about drill bits that I didn’t know before.”

Julian made sure to thank his father for his mentorship and guidance, The Covenant School Science Department for including him, the Class of 2017 for financial support, Blue Ridge Builders Supply for the donation of the materials, Christina Boy of Madison, VA for her woodworking expertise, The Covenant Eagles Football Team for lifting and installing the benches, and anyone else who helped on installation day.

Julian is working towards his Eagle Scout merit badge and hopes to get it by the time he turns 15.
