2021 Golden Apple Award Winner

Each year Albemarle County presents a Golden Apple award to one teacher from each school in our community who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and involvement in the community outside the school. This year’s recipient from The Covenant School is Ninth Grade English teacher, Thomas Fickley.
Mr. Fickley received nominations from parents, students, and his peers. One student commented, “I have never met a teacher, maybe even a person, that I have felt radiate excitement and a passion for good like Mr. Fickley.”  A fellow faculty member remarked, “Mr. Fickley’s enthusiasm for life, as well as literature, is infectious and inspiring.  Few leave a class or a conversation with him unmoved.”  Congratulations, Mr. Fickley!  Your impact on our community is immeasurable.

Sponsored by Better Living Building Supplies and Cabinetry, each recipient of a Golden Apple Award will receive a $500 grant to use for classroom materials or to support the teacher’s professional development.
