"Sew" Busy This Summer

Many of us did not have a typical summer, but that didn’t discourage Covenant sixth graders, Addy Anderson and Zaharra Colla. They spent their time perfecting their sewing skills and creating a business plan.  Having an interest and background in sewing, both of the girls wanted to expand their skills even further.  After attending a sewing camp together at The Hive in Charlottesville, the two started brainstorming what they could do with their sewing talents and decided to start their own business. They call it A-Z Arts and have been making and selling masks, backpacks, and much more.
Addy and Zahara also wanted to add a community servanthood aspect to this project. So, they decided that for every mask they sell, they will donate one to Abundant Life. So far, the girls have made approximately 30 masks.

This has given both girls an outlet to explore their creativity while teaching them the value of teamwork and responsibility. As the school year begins,  Addy and Zaharra are hopeful to continue sewing and are rising up to the challenge of time-management as they balance their new business with their school, family, and extracurricular engagements.

The girls hope to launch their own website soon.  In the meantime, if you would like to contact A-Z Arts, you can email them at atozarts2020@gmail.com.
