Friday Faculty Spotlight | The Facilities Team

Facilities Director, Greg Porter, and his team are the behind the scenes crew that keep The Covenant School operating smoothly. Mr. Porter and the facilities crew have a wide variety of responsibilities including: Maintaining electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and alarm systems; Caring for the grounds, athletic fields, parking lots, and playgrounds; Preserving the exterior and interior of the buildings, as well as the overall cleanliness. The crew manages this all year, even when school is not in session. “We appreciate the time over breaks when the buildings are vacant. These are our most productive work times,” says Porter.
Mr. Porter, who has been Facilities Director for almost five years, has six crew members serving both the Birdwood and Hickory Campuses. The crew consists of Bob Michie (19 years, Hickory), Bobby Collins (9 years, Hickory), Wade Morris (6 years, Hickory), Will Hatter (8 years, Hickory), Murphy McGill (2 years, Hickory), and Johnnie Carter (20 years, Birdwood).

Mr. Porter says the best part of the job is “making a contribution to the education of children in a Christian school,” but the most challenging part is, “feeling helpless when things happen beyond our control. Our goal is to always open on time and complete the school day without interruption.”  The Covenant School is beyond grateful for all this team does for our school.
