It’s not often that a private school football coach is honored two years in a row. Seth Wilson, Head Football Coach and Lower School PE teacher, is the exception.
Last year, he was named Virginia Independent Conference Coach of the Year. This year, The Falcon Club named him Central Virginia Private School Coach of the Year. Despite these awards, Coach Wilson gives credit to his staff for this win and for the incredible undefeated and championship season for the Covenant 8-man football team.
“What took us to that next level was the support staff that was added to the program,” said Wilson. Last year, Assistant Coach Mark Noble came on board, and this year, Coaches Lorenzo Brown, Mo Weaver, Scott Shriver, and Athletic Trainer, Shay McLean, were great assets to the success of the program. “I may get the credit because that is what newspapers do. But, I did not make any tackles this year. I did not open up holes for anyone this year. I did not throw any passes, catch any passes nor intercept any. The players did all that,” said Wilson. “Football is a game where many roles need to be filled and the Head Coach cannot assume all those roles. Coaches Noble, Weaver, Brown, Shriver, Knight, and Szabo, along with Shay McLean, Matthew Dean, and Clark Walker, all worked their tails off for this program, for this season. Without each one of them, the success we had this year is for naught. Again, it might be my picture in the paper, but the truth is the players and support won this award.”
