Tolkein's Tales

This course will offer an opportunity to read and discuss Tolkien’s works both for fun and for the purpose of being discipled by Tolkien. As a class we will seek to be shaped by the texts we explore. The author’s Christian faith imbues his literary works, inviting us to use our imaginations, to grow in virtue, and to consider important theological, philosophical, and moral questions. And don’t forget the food: Middle-earth inspired “feasts” will be an important part of the learning experience. Much of the course’s purpose derives from this question: How do these stories set in the world of Middle-earth address us personally and equip us to live in the 21st century?
