Students are involved in a variety of activities outside the classroom. Over twenty-five clubs are offered; some promote academics such as the Academic Team, the Model United Nations, and the Spanish Club, while others focus on community service such as the Key Club and the Recycling Club. Some clubs, including the Film Club, the Ultimate Frisbee Club, and the Board Games Club, simply provide an enjoyable time of diversion.
The National Honor Society is also offered to students who have attained the highest academic achievement and, additionally, are leaders and good citizens of the Covenant community. In addition to exemplifying academic excellence, the membership is self-governing and provides a tutoring service to other students.
Model United Nations
Approximately forty-five students at the Upper School participate in this club each year. Participants prepare for, and attend, various Model UN conferences, which are hosted by the international relations student organizations at various universities throughout the world. Conferences we have attended include The University of Chicago, University of Michigan, The College of William & Mary, The University of Virginia, and Christopher Newport University. Participants are assigned a delegation (most recently we were the delegations of the United Arab Emirates and Paraguay) and then select the committee (World Health Organization, for example) they wish to join.
The Model UN experience is an excellent opportunity for students to develop public-speaking skills, research skills, and a deeper knowledge and understanding of current events and international relations.
