The Covenant Club (TCC) is a structured, enriching after-school program for Lower School students in Pre-K through Grade 6, designed primarily for working parents, but so popular that over one-half of the lower school students are enrolled. TCC is flexible and convenient–once a student is registered, parents may use the Club on a drop-in or as-needed basis and are billed monthly for the days their children attend. The primary goal of TCC is to provide a safe, educational, and creative program for every participating child.
After dismissal from school, students enrolled in the program enjoy a nutritious snack, and then may enjoy free time or have the opportunity to work on homework assignments. Students have the option to then participate in arts and crafts, games, or various other activities, both indoors and outdoors. Some students stay for only a half hour, while others stay the maximum time, which is until 5:30 p.m. In addition, Enrichment Programs are offered, such as music lessons, chess club, computer, swimming, Tae Kwon Do, sign language, and more!
The Director of The Covenant Club oversees the program and reports to the Head of the Lower School. The children work in a 1:10 (adult-to-child) group environment. Group leaders are contracted by the school following an interview, a review of credentials, and a criminal records check. Leaders are hired based on their experience and knowledge in regard to school-age child care skills. Training, orientation, and professional development are required for all Group Leaders in The Covenant Club.
Lower School students are enrolled in The Covenant Club through submitting a completed Registration Form to the TCC Director with a one-time registration fee. The Covenant Club is licensed by the State of Virginia Department of Social Services, which requires a birth certificate and current health records (including immunizations) to be on file for every child enrolled the the program.
Intramural Sports for Grades 4, 5, and 6
Intramural sports provide opportunities after school for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade girls and boys. The purpose of the program is to educate students on the fundamentals of sports and to provide an opportunity to apply those skills in a game-like experience. Five-week sessions are offered in each of the three major sports: basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Intramurals take place twice per week (two days for boys and two other days for girls) between dismissal and 4:30 in the afternoon.
