Iron Eagles Football Club

(Grades 7-8)

The Iron Eagles Football Team is a team for Grade 7 – 8 male students in the Charlottesville and surrounding areas. The team will be built upon Christian values through daily devotions before each practice and through the leadership of the coaching staff. In addition, the coaching staff will create a learner friendly practice environment in which each athlete, regardless of experience level, will be able to properly and safely learn the game of football. The team will play a 6-8 game schedule and practice three times a week throughout the season. If you would like to learn more about this team please click here. If you would like to register for this team please click here.

Eagle Wrestling Club

The Eagle Wrestling Club is for boys up through Grade 8. Our team motto is Heart. Soul. Mind. Strength., based on Mark 12:30–31, which says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” Our program seeks to equip young men to pursue excellence in the sport of wrestling, while also training their hearts, minds, and bodies to love God and love their neighbor.

This year the Eagle Wrestling Club will consist of two separate divisions (Youth and Middle School) and will be coached by Brooks Tate and Colin Anderson, both former wrestling coaches for The Covenant School. The Youth Club (Grades 1-6) will practice two days per week (usually Tuesday & Thursday) at The Covenant Lower School from 4:00-5:15 p.m. The season will start on November 29 and end on February 16, and our young wrestlers will have opportunity to compete against a number of other wrestling clubs in the greater Charlottesville area throughout the season.

The Middle School Club (Grades 6-8*) will practice three days per week at the Covenant Upper School from 3:45-5:30 p.m. The middle school season will start on November 15 and end on February 16.  The middle school will wrestle a competitive schedule against other middle schools and clubs in the Charlottesville and Richmond areas. During the weeks with competitions, one practice will be dropped (i.e., we will maintain a maximum of three wrestling days per week).
*Any experienced fifth or sixth graders that would like to practice and/or compete with the middle school team should contact Coach Anderson (canderson@covenantschool.org).
**Any experienced middle schoolers that would like to practice with the high school team as well should contact Head Coach Brian Lee (blee@covenantschool.org).

Eagles’ Beautiful Game (Soccer) Academy

Rising Grades 1–5

The Eagles’ Beautiful Game (EBG) Soccer Academy kicks off its fifth season this spring on the top-notch fields of the Covenant Upper School!  EBG Academy focuses on developing players who love the game because they are growing in their ability to control the ball, their field awareness and understanding of how to use space on the field, and their friendships in a competitive yet extremely encouraging environment. We strongly encourage and seek to nurture respect for others, humility, intensity, and joy in using our athletic gifts, individual skill development, and team play.

This spring, we plan to limit our size to 28 players, with the coach:player ratio generally 1:6–1:10. Training will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00–7:00 p.m., beginning March 13 and May 10. Matches will take place on Saturday mornings from 9:00–10:00 a.m., beginning March 18 and ending May 13 (week of May 15 is a make-up week). All training and intramural matches will be held at the Covenant Upper School soccer field, with the nearby Christian Aid field on 5th St. extended as a back-up field when necessary.

Kelly Scott, EBG Academy Director, has coached all levels and ages of youth soccer and is on the soccer coaching staff at Covenant. He holds the United States Soccer Federation’s National D Coaching License and played elite-level soccer through high school and into college, including the Olympic Development Program and three trips to the VA State Cup Finals. Kelly serves as a grounds minister at the University of Virginia with Athletes in Action. UVA Varsity men’s and women’s players frequently serve as assistant coaches. Email him at kelly.scott@athletesinaction.org with questions about the spring or inquiries about additional individual/group training. If you would like to register for this academy click here.
