Lower School Campus
Covenant’s Lower School students enjoy classes in a historic, red brick school building that sits atop a hill overlooking McIntire Park. Every classroom has high ceilings and large windows. Physical education takes place in a gymnasium, complete with bleachers and hardwood floors. A stage in the gym creates a great space for musical performances, presentations, and chapel. The expansive, fenced playground provides many options for students during recess: climbing on the “Big Toy,” playing under the large shade trees, shooting a few hoops on the outdoor court, and competing on soccer and kickball fields. Colorful murals, interesting displays, computers, and, of course, a wide selection of books, tapes, and videos make the library a special place for students to visit and for parents to volunteer. An art studio is dedicated to drawing, painting, sculpture, and much more! The multi-purpose room is a cheerful place where students have lunch, experience a variety of performances, and have check-in for The Covenant Club After-School program. The courtyard provides a natural area for an occasional outdoor class, and kindergarteners tend the birdfeeders placed near their courtyard windows. A full computer lab features state-of-the-art computers, allowing students to learn how to manipulate spreadsheets, explore desktop publishing packages, create power-point presentations, and improve keyboarding skills. Come for a tour to see why Covenant students and parents love their school!
Upper School Campus
The Upper School, home to Grades 7 through 12, is located on a strikingly beautiful 23-acre campus nestled near the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Albemarle County, just south of Charlottesville. There, the middle school (Grades 7 and 8) and the high school (Grades 9 through 12) enjoy a 96,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art, red brick facility built in 2002. Covenant families and the community enjoy drama and music productions in the Performing Arts Center, which seats 350 for music and drama presentations and alsoholds weekly chapel services. Visual art studios are enhanced with skylights and large windows, where potters’ wheels, a sand-blaster, and a kiln inspire budding artists. The large windows in the library, computer lab, and atrium provide wonderful natural light for students. The gymnasium hosts a variety of activities, from volleyball games to pep rallies to graduation ceremonies. A weight room and several athletic fields are in constant use by one of the Upper School’s 38 athletic teams. A beautiful courtyard and the colonnade overlooking the athletic fields provide comfortable places for students to gather.
From wireless classrooms to baseball dugouts to stained glass displays, the campus is designed to enhance the student experience by providing a full range of facilities for academic, athletic, and artistic pursuits. The Covenant Upper School on Hickory Street reflects the mission of the school: to foster student development in an invigorating and supportive environment.
