The Covenant School was founded in 1985 and became a member of the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) in 1992.  Covenant is accredited by the VAIS and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

In the most recent VAIS report from the November 2008 Visiting Committee, the school was commended as follows:  “It is remarkable for its strong sense of mission and the successful integration of both Christian and secular viewpoints within its college preparatory curriculum…The growth of the School since its inception and the commitment of everyone in the School’s community to its mission are a testament to the strength of leadership…”

In Covenant’s previous VAIS reports, the school was commended as follows:

“The Covenant School, a non-denominational Christian school, has a clearly stated educational mission and philosophy, consistent with their beliefs as a community of Christians.”

“The School community operates in harmony with the motto: Academic Excellence under the Sovereignty of God. Throughout the community, evidence is available to affirm this commitment to inspire students to love God and to love learning.”

“The curriculum and instruction closely parallel the stated mission of the school. Covenant provides a challenging academic program that is structured on a Christian foundation. Although a relatively small school, they strive to meet the needs of the individual learner by offering a wide range of classes at different ability levels.”

“Operationally, Covenant is solid.  Employees at the school clearly display a calling to what they do.  The students are there because they want to be…morale appears high among both adults and students.  The School’s academic and co-curricular programs are first class.”
