Grades 7 and 8
Every aspect of Covenant’s middle school program is designed to meet the varied and changing needs of the adolescents we serve. Academically, teachers incorporate a wide-variety of teaching styles to engage the developing minds of our students while simultaneously offering a high degree of support while instilling academic accountability in students who are preparing for the demands and independence of the high school years. Socially, Covenant’s program provides multiple avenues (advisory programs, extended recess opportunities, special programs/trips/retreats) for students to interact with one another and build community. Spiritually, students are engaged with a Biblical worldview in each academic subject and participate in weekly chapel programs coordinated by the middle school chaplain; various special events such as the annual overnight retreat) are designed to provide opportunities for worship and growth. Athletically and artistically, students are offered a wide array of opportunities to develop and enjoy their talents through courses (Covenant Singers, band, guitar, Art 7 and 8) and extracurricular programs (Junior Varsity and 7th/8th grade athletic teams, lunch time intramurals). Developmentally, students are able to channel their emerging gifts and leadership skills in such activities as the Science Fair and Student Council, while simultaneously enjoying a high level of support, encouragement, and advocacy from a highly dedicated and caring staff who are committed to The Covenant School’s students and mission statement.
Message from the Dean of Students for Grades 7 and 8:
Thank you for your interest in Covenant’s middle school program. Below you will find an overview of the role the Dean of Students plays in the middle school.
Advocate
Have a specific concern about your student’s progress or academic opportunities? Our job is to either meet that need or to guide you towards the teacher or staff member who can. All questions are welcomed!
Administrator
Have a question about the Advisory program? Have a question about the school calendar? My job is to ensure that the “mechanisms” (attendance, support programs, daily schedule) run smoothly so that your student feels safe and confident in the midst of the middle school experience.
Shepherd & Sheriff
The job of the dean and the middle school faculty is to foster a true community on the “yellow hall.” Our goal is to create a climate that ministers to the whole student and remains consistent with our school’s mission statement. If students need support or correction, our role is to provide that, as much as possible, in a collaborative effort with the student, teacher, and parent.
Events Coordinator
Movement Marathon? Class Trips to Philly and DC? Community Service Days? No problem! I work with the middle school chaplain to coordinate those activities beyond the classroom that enrich and enliven the middle school years.
I am here for you and your children. And, I believe that Covenant offers the best middle school faculty around. It is my privilege to serve as we attempt to cultivate and inspire “excellence under the sovereignty of God” in your middle school-aged child.
Grace and Peace to you,
Dave Dahnert
