The maximum ratio of students to teachers per class is 18 to 1 in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Students in Pre-K through Grade 4 study with a specific teacher in a self-contained classroom. In addition, students receive instruction from specialists in art, music, foreign language, and physical education. Aides are assigned to Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade classes. Fifth and sixth graders study with many academic teachers as well as art, foreign language, and physical education specialists. Students in Grades 5 and 6 may choose from various fine arts electives to fill the ‘specials’ period.
Folders containing representative work are sent home on a daily basis in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, and weekly in Grades 1 through 4. In Grades 5 and 6, all graded papers must be signed weekly. Fifth and sixth grade teachers check for parent signatures on Tuesday mornings.
Progress Reports
Report cards are issued each trimester for all grades at the Lower School, with a narrative indicating each student’s progress. Interim reports are issued at the halfway point of each trimester. Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled each fall and spring. At Covenant, we work in partnership with parents to help each child reach his or her full potential. Teachers are available to parents via email, phone calls, or meetings any time there is a question or concern.
