Introducing Assistant Athletic Director Matthew Dean

LAH_0423The Covenant School welcomes Matthew Dean, Assistant Athletic Director. Matthew will oversee the major administrative functions of Covenant Athletics: serving coaches, student-athletes, and supporting the faculty and staff in all areas of athletics and transportation.

Matthew spent the first eight years of his life in Latin America where his family served as missionaries before moving to western New York. After being recognized as a standout athlete at Fillmore Central School, he attended Houghton College where he studied Communications and Sports Ministry. While at Houghton, Matthew played both basketball and soccer at the college level. After graduation, he moved to Charlottesville to participate in the Trinity Fellows Program, a leadership and development program for post-graduates. He most recently worked at the University of Virginia School of Architecture. Matthew has been a volunteer basketball coach at several high schools, including Covenant, and spent three summers working at Summer’s Best Two Weeks, a Christian sports camp in Pennsylvania.

“I am deeply humbled, thankful, and excited for the opportunity to serve at Covenant as the Assistant Athletic Director. I value the thoughtfulness and Christ-centered approach Covenant has as an institution, and I look forward to aiding in the process of developing strong men and women of faith and character through the context of sport,” says Matthew.

Matthew replaces Dave Hart, who served three years as Assistant Athletic Director and eight years overall at Covenant in various roles.

“We knew that our next Assistant Athletic Director would need to espouse the same qualities that Dave possessed—a high level of organizational ability and dependable execution along with a passion for the mission that athletics serves here at Covenant,” says Athletic Director Clark Walker. “We were very confident after a thorough search process that we found the right person to continue to build on the progress and legacy of Covenant Athletics.”
